Elizabeth W. Hughes, EdD, presents at the 2024 Pennsylvania Art Education Association conference in Hershey, PA.
Elizabeth W. Hughes, EdD, EC’s Director of Communications, recently highlighted our organization’s environmental initiatives at two prominent conferences, reaching audiences from vastly different fields.
The first event was the 2024 PA Art Educators Association conference in Hershey, where Hughes joined Beth Burkhauser to present on “Addressing Environmental Justice Issues through Ecological and Environmental Art Pedagogies using Critical Inquiry and Action.” Hughes shared the successes of EC’s WeReclaim! Program, which empowers students to explore and address environmental concerns in their community. A few weeks later, Hughes then presented at the annual PA Abandoned Mine Reclamation conference to spotlight EC’s transformative work on the Espy Run stream restoration project, which had been heavily impacted by past mining activities.
These conferences provided valuable platforms to connect with diverse audiences – from educators and students to researchers and professionals – and to share EC’s mission of spread awareness about EC’s mission of reclaiming land, restoring waterways, and revitalizing communities. The enthusiastic response from both groups reaffirmed EC’s approach of fostering cross-sector collaborations in advancing environmental sustainability.
