Over the past several weeks, Earth Conservancy has been busy! From hands-on educational activities to sponsorships that support local organizations and programs, we’ve been glad to take part in events across the region, reflecting our commitment to the communities where we work and live.
At the Riverfront Parks Committee’s Chalkfest on the River Common, DCNR’s Heritage Day at Frances Slocum State Park, and WVIA’s Be My Neighbor Day, we offered activities introducing participants to aspects of our work and the natural and industrial history of the region. Children drew aquatic macroinvertebrates, colored maps of the area’s underground mine tunnels, and learned about the steps involved in reclaiming former mine lands. We also returned to Scranton for Outreach’s Children’s Career Fair at the end of August. Hundreds of children took a turn on EC’s (locally) famous ecosystem wheel, exploring the relationship between animals, plants, and the natural resources around them.
And not every event involves a hands-on activity. We were also proud to support events like EPCAMR’s 30th Anniversary Dinner, North Branch Land Trust’s Barn Banquet, NEPA Alliance’s Annual Networking Reception, and Luzerne County’s Babe Ruth Home Run Derby at Kirby Park. These sponsorships help support local programs and events that bring people together and contribute to the region’s quality of life.
Whether we’re sharing educational activities, supporting local organizations, or helping make community events possible, EC appreciates the opportunity to take part in the life of the region. Thank you to the organizers, partners, and participants who made these events possible.
