Unfortunately, illegal dumping is common in the region, especially where vast tracts of abandoned minelands are found.  That is certainly the case for Earth Conservancy’s many acres of land.  Luckily, partners like the Newport Township Community Organization hold illegal dumpsite and community-wide cleanups. These events, sponsored by the Northeast Regional Office of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council through grants, improve not only the environment, but also the quality of life for residents.
