The autumn leaves provided a brilliant backdrop for North Branch Land Trust‘s (NBLT) recent community hike along the western edge of the Sugar Notch Trail, a large part of which is now part of the Pinchot State Forest. EC included it in a recent 1,400-acre transfer agreement with the Commonwealth, which also included the Hanover Reservoir.

About 30 people participated, with Emma Thompson from NBLT and Megan Finnen from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources serving as guides. They provided an informative tour of the area, offering insights into local ecology, trail history, and the significance of preserving these natural spaces. There were plenty of hands-on opportunities to connect with nature, too! Afterwards, the group headed to Bell House Winery, where hikers enjoyed local wines and continued conversations sparked during the trail walk.

With the success of this first outing, NBLT is looking forward to future hikes that will continue to explore, educate, and engage community members with the natural world around them. Follow them on Facebook for updates.
