BLURB / READ MORE
Despite the damp and the chill, hundreds of area students turned out to celebrate Earth Day along the Susquehanna in Nesbitt Park on April 29, 2016.  At EC’s station, we discussed our ongoing work to treat acid mine drainage in local waterways – information that was then used to inspire some amazing magnetic poetry.  The event was sponsored by Pennsylvania American Water and the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority, as well as the Luzerne County Penn State Cooperative Extension, the Wilkes-Barre Riverfront Parks Committee, DCNR Bureaus of State Parks & Forestry, Wilkes University’s EEES & Biology Departments, Kings College’s Environmental Program, and the Luzerne County Conservation District.  Photos, from left to right:  1.) Dr. Elizabeth Hughes, EC’s Director of Communications, discussing AMD with visiting students.
