Thanks to a $4,800 grant from ARIPPA, EC’s Askam Borehole AMD Treatment System has undergone an important infrastructure upgrade with the installation of a brand-new aluminum gangway bridge. The previous wooden decking posed numerous challenges, increasingly becoming weathered and warped over the years. The new bridge addresses these concerns head-on, increasing durability and safety, as well as lowering long-term maintenance requirements.

This project highlights the importance of strategic infrastructure investments in environmental restoration projects. It also underscores the power of collaborative partnerships. ARIPPA and EPCAMR have been instrumental in supporting EC’s ongoing work. We strongly encourage other nonprofits working to address AMD and AML issues to check out ARIPPA’s Reclamation Grant Initiative learn more about this funding opportunity. By working together, organizations can make significant strides in repairing the environmental legacy of Pennsylvania’s mining history.
