PROJECT OVERVIEW
One of the tenets of EC’s original Land Use Plan was to encourage smart growth, which focuses on concentrated, mixed-use development. The Sugar Notch reclamation supported this, the residential-zoned area being adjacent not only the Hanover Recreation Area and Sugar Notch Trail, but also the commercial Preston and Huber Bank sites. The site project was completed in 2006 and is for sale.
March 2006 | Final project report submitted to PA DEP.
November 2005 | EC awarded third Growing Greener grant from PA DEP for $248,000 to complete reclamation project.
April 2005 | Earthwork begins.
February 2005 | Plans are approved by LCD.
January 2005 | LCD provides comments on permit applications. Plans are revised and resubmitted.
October 2004 | Plans submitted to the Luzerne Conservation District (LCD) for permit approval. EC awarded additional $100,000 from PA DEP Growing Greener program for Sugar Notch Bank project.
June – September 2004 | Working with Sugar Notch Borough, Borton Lawson performs a comprehensive stormwater review, evaluates alternatives, and incorporates findings into reclamation plans.
May 2004 | Borton Lawson submits draft plans to EC. A meeting is held with Sugar Notch Borough Council for additional input.
January 2004 | Borton Lawson is contracted for design and permitting.
November 2003 | RFP for engineering services is released.
October 2003 | EC receives a $500,000 Growing Greener grant from PA DEP to continue reclamation of the Sugar Notch Bank area, targeting 50 acres for residential development.
