Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) Earth Conservancy
has land holdings in Luzerne County's Lower Wyoming Valley, south and
southeast of the City of Wilkes-Barre. Almost 900 acres of EC's
available developable land in this area is located within a designated Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ). Click Here
for a complete listing of all KOZ
and KOEZ land in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties. KOZ
areas were established by Gov. Tom Ridge in early 1999 as an incentive to
attract new businesses, industries, and residents to Pennsylvania. Those
who opt to locate within a designated KOZ will benefit from a tax forgiveness
of corporate net income taxes, mercantile taxes, wage taxes and all property
taxes for up to twelve years. There is also a sales tax exemption on
purchases that are used and consumed by businesses in the zone. EC's
designated KOZ acreage is located in the City of Nanticoke, and Newport and
Hanover Townships, near Luzerne County Community College. This part of the
Wyoming Valley region is easily accessible by Interstate 81, and the PA
Turnpike, and is in close proximity to New York City, Philadelphia, and
Washington, D.C. There is also a local international airport that
offers direct flights to New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh,
and Washington, D.C. There are also a
variety of recreational opportunities being developed by EC near this area,
including hiking/mountain biking trails, a recreational facility with
regulation size athletic fields and tennis and basketball courts, and the
Ashley Planes Heritage Park. For more
information about our land with a KOZ designation, contact Shirley Santine,
Real Estate Sales Coordinator at 570-823-3445, Monday through Friday, 8:30
a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EC accomplishes its mission through: Reclamation Mine Drainage/Artificial Wetlands
